Austin, Texas
Wednesday, February 2, 2011 - The talent is 'crazy good' stated Steven Tyler of the thousands of contestants entered the front stage for an applauded 'yes' from the judges or a disappointing 'no.' One of the first acts to come the judges way was from a young Texan native Corey Levoy who claims to have a Lopez booty. His sister convinced him to try out. She sat along with the judges giving her own chair and Coco-Cola, she listened to her brother sing his song. When asked if her brother should move onto the next round, she replied, 'Heck yeah.' Judges Steven Tyler and Jennifer Lopez also responded with a 'heck yeah!' Randy Jackson yelled out 'Y'all heck yeah!'
Holli Cavangh another Texan native entered center stage and sang the infamous song At Last . The judges were not too impressed with her switching keys. Lopez suggested she collect herself and sing another song. Young Cavangh calmed down and gave one last try with Miley Cyrus's popular tune The Climb. Even Randy Jackson was so shocked by the difference in sound, he reversed his previous no to an emphatic yes!
The famous Lion King song Circle of Life was performed by young Rodoffo but lacked tune and melody so clarified Jennifer Lopez.
A lot of cowboys entered the stage, but very few could perform to Idol quality, except for a young Texan with a befitting cowboy name of John Wayne Schultz. His mother was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2007 and her wish was for him to try-out for American Idol. Schultz sang Brooks and Dunn's song Believe. After singing the song, Randy Jackson asked for the parents to come in the room. All three judges yelled in unison 'Welcome to Hollywood!'
Day two in Austin was met with talent waving the Texan flag, a few girls dressed in cardboard shaped stars on their backs, and glitter signs and posters. Jennifer Lopez was glammed up for the day of judging. Steven Tyler mentioned any woman who can pull her hair back to only reveal her face can be nothing less than gorgeous.
Courtney Penry confessed her loving adoration for Ryan Seacrest before she took to the audition room. Once inside, she blew kisses to Steven Tyler for his surprise. Before singing her song, she showed off her chicken imitation dance that had Randy begging the question 'what kind of show is this?' The judges loved her song resulting in Penry performing a victory dance and more chicken walking. Once outside the audition room, she tried to fool her family into thinking she had been rejected, but soon gave way to jumps and screams of joy.
Soon talent was was pouring out of the audition room. Lopez commented 'it's a party here in Texas.' Other contestants who made the first cut were Shautel Campus, Alex Carr, and Caleb Johnson. One right after another audition of great talent.
Jacquelin Dunford and Nick Fink a young very much in love couple from Arizona came out to audition in Austin. They want to consider themselves the first power couple of American Idol. They first met at a community college choir and now they're auditioning together side by side to the Idol panel of judges. Dunford went first singing Mercy by Duffy and then Fink with Maroon 5's song Sunday Morning. Lopez commented their voices and talent 'it's a beautiful thing.' Randy Jackson concluded 'your love is going to Hollywood!'
A Texan native made it through with another of Duffy's songs Syrup & Honey. Janelle Arthur was stopped by Jackson because he had heard enough to know she belonged in Hollywood.
What came next to the judges was a complete surprise. Contestants dressed in armadillo costumes and Roman goddess attire. It all had Jackson asking 'what kind of audition is this?' At one point, Jackson asked a contestant, 'is there a song called watch me leave ?'
The last contestant for Austin was a Seth Rogen or maybe a Fraggle Rock Muppet look-alike Casey Abrams from California. He sang Don't Need No Doctor by Ray Charles. All judges together screamed 'Yes!' Steven Tyler commented it was 'sick good!'
With 50 more contestants on their way to Hollywood, the first round of auditions will come to a close in Los Angeles tomorrow night.
This is LA!
Thursday, February 3, 2011 - Contestants took to the shirts yelling and jumping for joy for the chance to audition for America's 2011 American Idol. Over 16,000 contestants plugged their voice on MySpace.com and few were given passes to audition in LA.
First contestant showcased was Victoria Garrett who believed it was fated by God Himself that Idol would have auditions in LA just for the judges to hear her voice. Judge Steven Tyler told her 'you're going to Siberia.' But, then, not to seem too mean, Tyler turned it around by describing her sound as a 'sweet angelic voice.' Judge Jennifer Lopez was confused, and all of the judges decided Garrett's fate was to not go to Hollywood.
Contestant Tim Halprin made it to Hollywood on the fated yes from Lopez. However, contestant Justin Canter was told by Lopez he lacked the 'oomph' in his voice.
Contestant Daniel Gomez of CA couldn't carry the tune of his song. Tyler noted Gomez was 'so far from the melody line.'
For contestant Isaac Rodriguez, he may not have had the voice, but Lopez complimented, 'you have a nice smile.' Rodriguez claimed it was the words he was messing up on. Lopez replied, 'it wasn't just the words, baby.'
Day Two at LA and a confident New York native Karen Rodriguez who had previously auditioned via MySpace.com was told by Lopez she had 'beautiful control' of her voice.
New Jersey native Tynisha Roches came with her own microphone. Contestant Roches claimed she couldn't perform up to her quality because she was nervous in front of J.Lo. She wanted to sing another song, but judge Randy Jackson stated, 'let's not do it again.' Jackson walked off and away, but contestant Roches followed him! Judges Jackson and Tyler attempted to remove the mic from Roches firm grip. Eventually, security escorted Roches out of the audition room.
Late in the afternoon, the judges were met with a belly dancing lady by the name of Heidi Khzam who wowed the judges with the song Superwoman by Alicia Keys.
Contestant Matt 'Big Stats' Frankel surprised the judges when he claimed he was a force to be reckoned with. Jackson commented, 'what I see I don't like.' Contestant Frankel retorted, 'I ain't gonna stop 'til I reach the number one spot.'
By the end of the second day, Lopez had stated most of what they had seen was 'not good.' One contestant was very revealing when he exposed a full frontal show during his audition.
There was hope in sight when the young Gutierrez brothers performed their duet to Lean on Me. The judges clapped they were so glad to have heard someone good in hours. Lopez applauded, 'I love it.' Tyler professed their sound was 'god-like the way you guys sang...it was what we needed.'
One of the last contestants of the day had Tyler yelling 'Good Lord in Heaven!' Cooper Robinson a 59 year old or he thinks so from Arkansas acted a fool dancing around and attempting to sing I Feel Good. Nicknamed the Human Tornado, Tyler commented in regards to Robinson's dancing 'you're never gonna get bit by a snake.'
The last of the first round auditions from San Francisco air next Wednesday at 8 (EST) on Fox.

Steven Tyler is a great addition to the show. Good show of talent in Austin. Found some of Caleb Johnson's singing on youtube.
The sob story format of the show gets tedious to me, but Steven Tyler makes it worth while. He is exactly what the show needed. I love everything that comes out of his mouth.

I'm enjoying this season of Idol better than any in recent (or distant) memory. Steven Tyler, where have you been hiding?
