Why ask the interviewer questions? What’s the point of it?

The reason an interviewee needs to ask questions is to demonstrate an enthusiastic interest in the position and the organization. Also, don’t you want to know if you’ll actually be happy working at the job? A few quick questions can easily make or break your desire to work for a company. This is a great opportunity to get an insight into the work environment.

A few questions to consider:

· Where can an employee make an immediate impact?

· Was anyone in this role before and where are they now?

· What would you consider my five most important tasks each day?

· Would I have several supervisors to report to?

· Is there a formal orientation or training program?

· How are work goals set?

· How will my work be evaluated? When would be my first evaluation?

· Do most managers have advanced degrees?

· What are the strengths of your department?

· Where do people go after this position?

· Is this company known for career advancement?

· How do you rate your competition?

· How do you see the future for this company in the next few years?

· How do you see the future for this industry?

· Will I have a chance to meet people who would be my colleagues?

· Where do you see the department needs improvement?

· What is the timetable for filling this position?

Be sure to never ask about benefits, time-off, etc. These are more appropriate questions for after you’ve been offered the job. Before accepting the job offer, this is the time to ask about time-off, benefits, holidays, etc.

Asking questions forms a connection between you and the interviewer. The interviewer will remember your great questions and take notice of your enthusiastic interest in the position.
